General Assessment
I thoroughly enjoyed this assessment, because it is fascinating to learn about the developments made in the ancient times. It was astonishing, learning about the accomplishments they made and what that actually lead to in modern society, and how society has changed and stayed the same since then. Until now, when someone mentioned about developments, I thought about the 20th century, when television was invented. And then computers. For me, development has been all about technology, which is why I enjoyed learning about Mesopotamia.
What I found
I never would have thought about how much Literature and Communication could be related to Government and Social Hierarchy! I mean, the chain of command in a modern company, for example. A miniature social order, which consists of labourers at the bottom, scribes - or as we now call them, 'managers' - above them, and then the CEO or leader at the top. Because, interestingly, in ancient times, the scribes were in charge of calculating and organising labour such as construction and farming. That's something I would have never considered. Also, education; the idea that someone of a lower social or economic level may not be able to get an education, which stops them from learning and understand literature and communication the way we do, which means that they will struggle in everyday life, as well as finding a good job! This research task gave me a really down-to-Earth perspective.
Investigation Process
I found that a mindmap plan was a very efficient way to plan out and organise my investigation. It especially helped me when I began to understand the full complexity and 'size' of the information that was out there. It was very useful as it was easy to record any useful information I found and later find that information, as it was so easy to organise. I chose my subjects and was then able to formulate my research questions based on what I had already learnt throughout the term. This allowed me to focus on my task and research information that was new and useful to me. I was able to use websites and a Youtube video effectively to find my information; I found that it was easier to understand when someone was presenting information to me, as opposed to just reading it in a book - most of the books I found where quite complicated and intense, although I managed to extract some useful information from them - and also found it easy to just search up a question and find documents about it, using the internet.
